  • The South Hobart Football Club is one of the oldest football (soccer) clubs in Australia and celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 2010. On the 21st May 1910 the first official game was played by South Hobart against Westralia at the newly opened South Hobart Ground. The result went in the home teams favour with a 4-1 win for the newly established Club.
The Club has had mixed success over the years—however that seemed to change when current Head Coach Ken Morton joined the Club in 2008. Ken has since steered the Club to win the the 2014 Victory League, Victory Cup Final and Lakoseljac Cup (earning us a place in the inaugural 2014 Westfield FFA Cup), the inaugural 2013 Victory League and Victory Cup Final, an unprecedented five consecutive Premier League trophies (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011and 2012) and three Statewide Finals (2010, 2011 & 2012), also capturing all five trophies on offer in the State 2010 and 2011 (Statewide Final, Southern Premier League, Statewide Lakoseljac Memorial Trophy, Summer Cup and the Steve Hudson Cup).
The Club’s 63 game unbeaten run came to an end in July 2011, with our First Team only losing twice in two years—a Tasmanian record!
To top off the Club’s success Ken was deservedly awarded the 2013 Victory League Coach of the Year, the 2011 and 2012 SPL Men’s Coach of the Year by Football Federation Tasmania. South midfielder Shae Hickey was awarded the 2012 SPL Best & Fairest Vic Tuting Medal.
Our underpinning Victory League under 20 team came 4th in the Southern Premier League and won the SPL Finals Series, defeating the SPL winner and runner up.
Our Reserve team has won six consecutive Premier League trophies (from 2006 to 2011), and our Under 19s went undefeated winning their Premier League in 2012 indicating the depth of players available within the Club.

Under the new National Premier Leagues model, and as winners of the Victory League, South Hobart qualified for the National Premier Leagues Finals Series. As Victoria does not yet have an NPL league South Hobart went straight to the NPL Semi Final which was played at D'Arcy Street against SA NPL Finals winner Campbelltown City SC. South created history by defeating Campbelltown City 3-1 and earning a place in the NPL Grand Final! This was the first time a Tasmanian Club has defeated a mainland club in a competition game.
The scoreline of our win meant that we earned a home final against former NSL giants Sydney Utd 58 FC, which was played at KGV Football Park, Glenorchy (instead of D'Arcy Street - FFA's choice). Unfortunately we were defeated 0-2, but our players showed great determination against the semi-professional Sydney team. We were certainly no pushovers! An amazing year!
